“Climate change” is not a popular term in Iran’s media but in recent weeks and days it has been used more frequently by people from the government and consequently in has appeared in newspapers and news agencies. No, no, no! Don’t make mistake. The articles that you can find these days and they mention the term “climate change” are neither about how Iran can decrease its emissions and improve its climate change performance index (now categorized among the worst) nor on adaptation policies to probably decrease Iran’s climate change vulnerability. Today, the term, I mean “climate change”, is used when people are looking for someone or something to blame. They may be looking for an excuse to answer a question about fire in Iran’s forests or an explanation to the question “why lakes like Hamun are disappearing in Iran?” This is not fair. I think when someone from the government says: “It is due to climate change!”, before he even finishes his or her sentence, we should continue our question with a new one like “so what have you done to stop global warming?” or “what are your major policies to tackle climate change impacts?” I think this would be much harder to be answered unless that person can find someone or something new to blame! ![]()
