Interesting days for climate change in Iran. A week ago, head of the Forestry Department blamed climate change for recent fires in forests around the country. A couple of days later, head of the research department of Iran's Meteorology Office claimed that there is no change in climate and what we are experiencing now is very usual. He promised!! that polar ice won't melt and claimed that sea levels wouldn't rise. Finally, yesterday country's transport minister, talking in a climate change conference, basically blamed deforestation as the cause of climate change. What is interesting is that they three are all wrong to some extent, aren't they? We know that although climate change may contribute as cause to recent fires around the world but it is not precisely proven. This is one of the cases where we should be careful about the difference between climate and weather. On the second case, I wrote a long article replying to the claims one by one, citing several papers from top-ranked journals. He has made unexpected mistakes which I believe even don't need further explanation here. And finally on deforestation, I really think talking about Iran, we should care more about GHG emissions rather than deforestation. Iran is now ranked 10 among top emitters and although we have lost significant amount of forest areas in recent decades, but we should be concerned more about how they are consuming energy and emitting greenhouse gases. کلمات کلیدی:
